Group Dynamics and Cooperative Games
This option is a great first day program for the class. Carlin Val from At Last Adventures has been running team building and cooperative game programs for over 20 years. This program is a half or full day option. Students will not only get to know each other, but they will learn each others strengths and weaknesses, develop communication and trust within the group, and ultimately lay the foundation needed in order to have a successful semester supporting each other through the various adventures and challenges.
Cost: $300/full day or $170/half day (Approximate) (one instructor)
Introduction to Back Country Hiking and Orienteering:
This is a one-day course will introduce students to the skills and benefits of hiking and build awareness of hiking opportunities in Ontario where special focus is placed on safety, planning, sustainability and enjoyment for personal outings. The second component to this course is Orienteering. Students will learn the different components of a compass, how to take and follow a bearing.
Cost: $400 (Approximate) (one instructor)
Introduction to Rock Climbing:
In this one day course students will get to rock climb on the Niagara Escarpment. This course will introduce basic knot tying, belay technique, and movement on the rock. Students will get to build trust, communication skills and an appreciation for heights.
Cost: $75/student (Approximate) (all equipment is provided)
Rock Climbing, Rappelling and Ascending:
This 3-day course, students will be able to climb higher and more challenging routes after completing the Introduction to Rock Climbing Course. In addition to Rock Climbing, students will learn how to rappel down the side of a cliff, ascend up a rock face using only ropes, and the physics involved with mechanical advantage (i.e. how to use rope and pulleys to make lifting things easier).
Cost: $75/day/student (Approximate) (all equipment is provided)
Cave Exploration:
In this one-day course students will get to explore hidden caves that lie under the Niagara Escarpment. This is one of ALA’s most popular adventure tours. One of the caves has an underground spring, and ice that stays well into the summer.
Cost: $75/person (approximate) (all equipment is provided)
Introductory to Canoeing:
This is a one-day introduction to canoeing where we learn different strokes, how to steer and maneuver a canoe, how to rescue a canoe if it tips, and tips and tricks involved in packing a canoe. This day is essential if the class is to do a multi day canoe trip.
Cost: $50-60/student (approximate) (all equipment is provided)
Snowshoeing
This is a half day or full day option introduces students to the basics and benefits of snowshoeing and the knowledge needed to stay safe in the winter environment.
Cost: $130/half day or $250/full day(Approximate) (Plus $20/snowshoe set) (1 Instructors)
